State of Arizona Commendation

June 19, 2017 |

Governor Doug Ducey has issued a Commendation “Juneteenth” in recognition of this celebration of freedom and justice when slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865 learned of their freedom resulting from President Abraham Lincoln’s signing the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 granting freedom to the slaves.  The Commendation recognizes the importance of this celebration in Arizona and encourages all residents to reflect upon the value of freedom, reaffirm the universal principle of justice for all, and join in Juneteenth celebrations.
